Have you ever wondered who works behind those signs that say ‘Danger, do not enter’? One little curious boy did. Join him on his adventure as he gains more than he expected—not just answers, but friendship and a heart of gratitude.

Based on a true story, or more accurately, many true stories, Uncles at Work is an attempt to shed light on the dangers and unfair treatment faced by those who build our homes. Special thanks to the input from Kim Eun Hee, a fellow schoolmate who wrote a similar themed book on migrant workers, Who’s Behind that Wall.

How do we perceive our foreign friends? What do we communicate to our children when we shun these migrant workers or murmur behind their backs? Many of them—husbands, sons and fathers just like ours—are doing back-breaking tasks day and night without voice, without justice.

About The Invisible People Series

The Invisible People series is a tribute to some special people who hold very special jobs. Those who grow up with us, build our homes and even those whom we see every single day without fail. Yet, we may not treat them like they are a part of our lives. Let us get to know these Invisible People better and together make them visible by waving help or even saying a simple ‘thank you’ to them today.
